RRC Commissioner Wayne Christian Praises Trump’s Announced Texas Refinery Expansion
October 14, 2026AUSTIN, Texas — RRC Commissioner Wayne Christian today applauded Vice President JD Vance’s announcement that the Trump administration will invoke the Defense Production Act to expand the Delek US Holdings Inc. refinery in Tyler, Texas. The project is expected to increase production of commercial-grade and military-specification fuels.
“Affordable, reliable energy is the foundation of economic prosperity,” Christian said. “It has been a breath of fresh air to have an administration that clears the runway for oil production instead of putting up roadblocks to sabotage it. Texas has helped power this country for generations, and we stand ready to step up to the plate once again.”
The planned expansion comes as Texas families and businesses face elevated energy costs. By increasing domestic refining capacity, the project would expand the supply of transportation and military fuels, helping the nation meet demand and further reduce reliance on foreign energy production.
“American energy security depends on robust domestic oil production and refining,” Christian added. “President Trump and Vice President Vance understand that better than anybody. That’s why I applaud their decision to expand refining capacity right here in our backyard. The additional fuel produced at this facility will further bolster the local economy, support our military and improve domestic fuel affordability.”
