Texas Drilling Permit and Completion Statistics for February 2026

AUSTIN – The Railroad Commission of Texas issued a total of 579 original drilling permits in February 2026. The total includes 501 to drill new oil or gas wells, 11 to re-enter plugged wellbores, 14 field transfer, 52 for re-completion and 1 reclass.

The breakdown of well types for total original drilling permits in February 2026 is: 121 oil, 40 gas, 377 oil and gas, 21 injection, and 20 other permits.

In February 2026, Commission staff processed 841 oil, 296 gas, and 140 injection completions.
