Texas Drilling Permit and Completion Statistics for August 2025

AUSTIN – The Railroad Commission of Texas issued a total of 560 original drilling permits in August 2025. The total includes 482 to drill new oil or gas wells, 8 to re-enter plugged wellbores, 6 field transfers, 63 for re-completion, and 1 reclass.

The breakdown of well types for total original drilling permits in August 2025 is: 106 oil, 52 gas, 367 oil and gas, 24 injection, 2 service and 6 other permits.

In August 2025, Commission staff processed 1,223 oil, 340 gas, and 130 injection completions.
